Best Dressed Women at the 2024 Met Gala
Another Met Gala has come and gone!
So much anticipation surrounds this day: the preparation, the research, the glam, the fittings... phew.
As anticipated in our predictions, this year's theme was open-ended, offering ample space for experimentation, imagination, innovation, and archival exploration.
Do you believe the guests lived up to this theme? Was the theme sufficiently clear?
Here are my top 10 best-dressed women of the night— Drop yours in the comments!
Zendaya
Zendaya graced the Met Gala red carpet in a custom Maison Margiela dress designed by John Galliano, styled by Law Roach. The choice was a distinct nod to the designer's iconic Spring 1999 couture collection for Dior. Completing her ensemble was a striking headpiece crafted by Philip Treacy.
Mona Patel
Indian business tycoon Mona Patel made a stunning entrance at the Met Gala, donning custom Iris Van Herpen couture, styled by Law Roach. The gown was adorned with intricate Indian embroidery, featuring a long, flowing train and mesmerizing butterflies on her arms that moved in slow motion as she gracefully walked. To achieve the captivating effect of the fluttering butterflies, Patel collaborated closely with kinetic motion artist Casey Curran.
Emma Chamberlain
Emma Chamberlain embraced a dark interpretation of the theme, opting for a custom Jean Paul Gaultier gown, styled by Jared Ellner. Seeking to embody concepts of "fragility" and "decomposition," the JPG team drew inspiration from various references, prominently featuring the mocha-colored lace corset worn by Suzanne von Aichinger in the spring 2003 couture show, known as Morphing.
Tyla
South African singer Tyla channeled the essence of a sand sculpture at the Met Gala, wearing a custom Balmain dress designed by Olivier Rousteing, symbolizing the concept of the "sands of time." The stunning dress incorporated three hues of sand and was adorned with micro-crystal studs, creating a mesmerizing effect. Completing her ensemble was a Balmain hourglass clutch filled with sand, perfectly complementing the theme.
Zendaya
Zendaya made another striking appearance on the Met Gala carpet in a custom Givenchy Spring 1996 couture gown, adorned with a flower bouquet headpiece from the Alexander McQueen Spring 2007 collection, created by Philip Treacy and styled by Law Roach.
Cardi B
Cardi B made a bold statement at the Met Gala in a voluminous, feathery black custom gown by Windowsen, styled by Kollin Karter. The striking ensemble, representing a black rose, exuded a captivating allure reminiscent of Maleficent.
Gigi Hadid
Gigi Hadid wore a custom Thom Browne gown with an attached train. The top of her dress featured yellow appliques, mirroring the unconventional detail of the train, which was shaped like a tuxedo jacket complete with sleeves.
Nicki Minaj
Nicki Minaj graced the Met Gala in a custom Marni dress by Francesco Risso, offering an artistic interpretation of the sculptural floral designs showcased in Marni's spring 2024 collection last year.
Taylor Russell
Taylor Russell made a stunning debut at the Met Gala wearing a custom Loewe design. The dress boasted a wooden turtleneck bodice meticulously sculpted to fit her torso. Russell's longstanding association with Loewe was further solidified when she served as the muse for designer Jonathan Anderson, notably opening the brand's spring 2023 show in Paris.
Lana Del Rey
Lana Del Rey commanded attention in a custom design by Alexander McQueen’s Seán McGirr. This stunning ensemble paid homage to an archival Alexander McQueen design from their fall 2006 collection. For added drama, McGirr crafted a special headpiece, incorporating natural hawthorn branches adorned with a veil of sheer tulle. Completing the look was a bronze medal Drop bag embellished with a clock detail, adding a touch of elegance and sophistication.
So, did these women do the theme justice?
