So I blinked, and all of a sudden, it’s that time again… the fashion world has come alive at New York Fashion Week. It feels like just yesterday we were immersed in the shows of the last season, serving as a stark reminder of how swiftly time is passing.
This season's kickoff saw presentations from some of the industry's most illustrious names. Helmut Lang, under the guidance of newly appointed Creative Director Peter Do, embarked on a mission to restore the brand to its former excellence. Christian Siriano transported us to a world of romance and whimsy, drawing inspiration from the ballet. Ralph Lauren returned to the NYFW runway with a collection that fused elegance and sustainability. Who Decides War, while evolving into a new elevated direction, remained steadfast in its signature design codes. Sergio Hudson, as he shared with Fashionista, delivered a collection tailor-made for "a bad, boss bxtch."
Now, amidst this illustrious lineup, it was Dion Lee that captured our attention.
Dion Lee, a contemporary fashion brand hailing from Australia, is celebrated for its innovative and modern approach to fashion. It masterfully blends traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge design techniques and materials, crafting garments that are both visually captivating and exceptionally comfortable to wear.
This enchantment held true for the brand’s Spring Summer 2024 collection, unveiled this past weekend. In this industrial-inspired collection, Dion Lee experiments with metallic accents and workwear garb. Zippers, serving as a prominent industrial detail, contribute to the outfit’s edgy appeal.
The exposed top of this ensemble is simultaneously alluring, sleek, and practical for the Spring/Summer season. This attire possesses a masculine and well-defined structure while incorporating feminine elements. It’s a Dion Lee signature move—masculine meets feminine in effortless style. And let’s not overlook the knee-high boots, a beautiful finishing touch to the ensemble. It seems that knee-high boots are making a triumphant return to the fashion stage, particularly in their bulkier iterations showcased throughout this collection. Look 2 - Reconstructed Timberlands
In an alternate universe, this look would undoubtedly serve as the mandated uniform for construction workers. The earthy beige cargo attire immediately evoked images of reconstructed Timberland boots. This outfit flawlessly embodies the allure of a sensually charged workwear aesthetic.
Dion Lee’s masterful execution in conveying an industrial and subversive theme within this collection is nothing short of extraordinary. Look 3 - Chrome And Leather
Doesn’t this radiant silver chrome ensamble transport you to Beyonce’s Renaissance Tour?
The balloon-style mini dress strikes a balance between elegance and edginess, making it a brilliant choice for a summer night out. Chrome is everywhere in 2023—spotted on nails, bags, and shoes.

Okay, now this structured blazer look is the epitome of a girl boss. The cream, masculine blazer is expertly paired with an ultra-mini skirt. What truly sets this fourth look apart is the abundance of hardware, with a fabulous silver chain belt as the main attraction.
As we analyze this office-chic attire, doesn’t it seem to pay a gracious nod to the collection’s industrious, hyper-utility theme? The concept of ‘big shirt, little pants’ is undoubtedly a thread woven through the designs of many creators, but Dion Lee’s interpretation is nothing short of exquisite.
Within the collection, oversized jackets were a common theme, coupled with petite shorts and skirts. It’s a marriage of proportions that the brand has executed flawlessly. This might be the ideal ensemble for the fashion-savvy summer interns next year, don’t you think?
Every footwear piece within this collection was crafted in collaboration with designer Ancuta Sarca. The spotlight undoubtedly belonged to the chunky boots, perfectly in sync with the utilitarian, workwear-inspired garments. These versatile boots made appearances both elevated and causal on the runway, leaving us eagerly anticipating creative ways people will style them come next Spring and Summer.
Look 5 - Cozy “Groufit”
Need an outfit for a Sunday morning coffee run? Then this fifth look is the perfect one for you. This charming grey effortlessly is causal and comfortable, while still being chic and stylish—making it the quintessential attire for running errands.
Let’s take a moment to appreciate Dion Lee’s penchant for material experimentation, exemplified by the gathered top. It’s the kind of simple detail that adds an unexpected layer of sophistication, elevating it from the “typical grey hoodie” into something remarkable. This spirit of experimentation has propelled the innovation of this SS24 collection to new heights.
This "groufit" (all-grey outfit) joins the ranks of the monochromatic co-ords that further underscore the prevailing theme of this collection. While undeniably relaxed and laidback, the subtlety of the details makes it an exquisite match for an off-duty model. It would be no surprise to see Bella Hadid wearing this to a workout class in the near future.
Glitz and Glam - Hair and Makeup of The Show
Now, let’s get into the runway glamour. Sleek hairstyles and shimmery ‘second-skin’ makeup were seen on the Dion Lee runway. The creative mastermind behind these transformations was none other than renowned makeup artist Marcelo Gutierrez. With his artistry, using Kjaer Weis products, he bestowed a hyper-futuristic aura upon the models. Gutierrez’s minimalist yet striking approach proved to be a perfect complement to Dion Lee’s vision, creating an impression of a truly harmonious partnership.

The show drew an illustrious crowd, with notable attendees including Kali Uchis, Law Roach, and Ice Spice. Singer Kali Uchis and renowned celebrity stylist Law Roach both graced the event in past Dion Lee pieces that seamlessly harmonized with the structured, monochrome theme of the SS24 collection.
Following the show, Dion Lee hosted a star-studded afterparty, attracting a range of celebrities from Avril Lavigne to Tinashe, all dressed in neutral-colored attire.
